Volante basse Volante bass

The great advantage of the Volante is that it reproduces the natural sound of a traditional upright bass, but in a compact form which facilitates transport.

When unfolded, the Volante looks very much like a traditional upright bass. It has the same feel and the same support points.
The traditional bridge and soundboard produce the characteristic double-bass sound which is accurately picked up by a transducer. Naturally, players can fit any other pick-up according to their taste and to their style of music.
There also is a simple mechanism to adjust the string height as required.

The assembly and dismantling operations are quick (under 4 mns) and easy thanks to the patented neck joint and collapsible soundboard.

The main disadvantage of the traditional double bass, its large volume, is greatly reduced thanks to the folding soundboard “wings” and to a neck joint which allows the neck and pegbox to fold back inside the instrument’s body.
The instrument folds down to a volume of 48’’ x 10’’ x 10’’, making it easy to carry by car, plane or even on foot.
It weighs under 24 lbs, including carrying-bag. For air travel, a flightcase-type box can be bought or hired. The total weight then rises to only 40 lbs.
Through simple design and the use of conventional components, together with the modern instrument-making methods available at the “Maurice Dupont” workshop in Cognac-France, costs are kept low. The result is an upright bass of high quality at an affordable price.

L’atout de l’instrument est de restituer le son naturel de la contrebasse traditionnelle, dans un encombrement réduit, permettant un transport aisé...
